Welcome to “Republic of Comedy”, the new international comedy club in Lisbon’s growing comedy scene! Bringing shows with the best local and international comedians at Xafarix, a historic venue tucked away in the heart of the city. This week we are proud to feature KATE CHEKA!
Last year Kate attempted to save the world or as The Guardian put it... ‘political comedy may yet have found its new messiah.’
Now she thinks perhaps it is time to burn it all down. Everything is falling apart. What does it mean to be a woman (and a feminist) in the midst of an apocalypse?
Expect stories about the farmer she could have married, an awards ceremony after party, appearing on BBC Radio 4 and Berlin STI tests interspersed with razor-sharp political comedy on colonialism and the rise of fascism.

About Kate Cheka
Kate Cheka is an artist, stand-up comedian and writer who has performed in over ten countries across four continents. The 2023 Funny Women Award winner her debut sold out Edinburgh show received critical acclaim and went on to a Soho Theatre run.
She was also nominated for the 2025 DIVA Magazine Queer Comedian of the Year award and the Chortle 2024 Best Newcomer award.
